April API Performance Report: Movers and Shakers

We’re going to jump right in with the API performance highlights for the month of April.

gemini api performance

Gemini in the Exchanges collection dropped 16 places. This was due to a couple of scheduled outages that saw endpoints return HTTP 503 errors.

yapily api performance

Yapily in the Fintech collection dropped 3 places. This was mainly due to movement around them, however their delete user endpoint saw a massive number of outliers from the middle of the month onwards, although this has not had too much of an impact on their overall ranking.

revolut api performance

Revolut in the Open Banking UK Production collection dropped 12 places. This was due to a large increase in their outlier rate, the pictured endpoint (Account-Access-Consents: Get) saw an increase of 4.08% points since last month with standard deviation up over 270% to 132ms.

faa api performance

FAA in the US Government collection dropped 4 places. This was due to a 2 day outage early in the month which saw the domain serving the API fail to return an IPv4 address, as well as a very high rate of outliers (13.19%).

Allied Irish Bank Sandbox in the Open Banking UK Sandboxes collection was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 4.89. This was due to large variations in latency across the month, with it rising to nearly 3500ms at one point.

And this one shows a 2 day outage early in the month which saw the domain serving the API fail to return an IPv4 address, as well as a very high rate of outliers (13.19%)

Dept of Energy api performance

Well well well, look whose API performance is lighting up like a Christmas tree. In a piece of news that shocks no one who’s been following our API performance reports, the Dept of Energy in the US Government collection was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 3.01. This was due to an extremely high outlier rate from both Azure (90.3%) and IBM (78.8%) based agents. These issues started around the 25th of March and have continued through April.

Veterans Affairs api performance

Veterans Affairs in the US Government collection was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 3.92. This was due to a two day outage they suffered over the weekend from the 22nd to 24th. This saw the API return HTTP 503 errors. This was for scheduled maintenance.

Dept of Commerce api performance

Dept of Commerce in the US Government collection was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 5.78. This was due to a generally high outlier rate, combined with a number of failures throughout the month, including HTTP 502 and DNS lookup errors.

April API Performance Roundup

  • Stripe (Sandbox) in the Fintech category takes the overall title for best API again this month with a CASC score of 9.74.
  • Contentful in the GGV Capital API-First category is the fastest API again this month with an average latency of 46 ms, down from 47 ms last month.
  • Monzo Bank is the best-performing bank in the Open Banking UK Production category with monitored AISP (non-consent) endpoints again this month with a CASC score of 9.19, down from 9.23 last month.
  • Dept of Energy in the US Government category is the overall worst performing API again this month with a CASC score of 3.01, down from 3.28 last month.
  • 8 categories are topped by an API with a CASC score of 9.50 or more, the same as last month.
  • 15 categories are topped by an API with a CASC score of 9.00 or more, the same as last month.
  • 0 categories have bottom API with a CASC score of 9.00 or more, down from 2 last month.
  • 5 categories have bottom API with a CASC score of 8.00 or more, down from 15 last month.
  • 7 APIs (Africa’s Talking in the Corporate Messaging collection with a CASC score of 4.27, Barclays Personal Sandbox in the Open Banking UK Sandboxes collection with a CASC score of 4.35, Allied Irish Bank Sandbox in the Open Banking UK Sandboxes collection with a CASC score of 4.89, FAA in the US Government collection with a CASC score of 3.08, Dept of Energy in the US Government collection with a CASC score of 3.01, Veterans Affairs in the US Government collection with a CASC score of 3.92, Dept of Commerce in the US Government collection with a CASC score of 5.78) are in the Red Zone with a CASC score of less than 6.00 this month, up from 5 last month.
