At APImetrics, we take a weekly look at the API performance of the world’s top APIs. This week, we’re going to highlight a few of the big movers and shakers.
Cisco in the Enterprise Messaging decreased by 13% from 8.82 (in the Green Zone) to 7.66 (in the Yellow Zone). This was due to periodic clusters of outliers every day in the mid to late afternoon. There was also a notable increase in latency affecting 4 of their endpoints, notably the ones related to rooms. Their webex status page notes only two incidents with high latency in this time period, on the 22nd and 25th of the month.
Gemini in the Exchanges decreased by 21% from 6.75 (in the Yellow Zone) to 5.32 (in the Red Zone). This was due to a large outage on the 21st however their status page notes this as being scheduled which corresponds to the HTTP 503 response code.
Allied Irish Bank Sandbox in the Open Banking UK Sandboxes was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 4.56. This was due to a large increase in server processing time affecting most of their endpoints. The climb began around the 9th of April and accelerated around the 17th before recovering mostly for the 21st and then beginning to trend upwards again.
But Allied Irish Bank in the Open Banking UK Open Data category takes the overall title for best API performance again this week with a CASC score of 9.79.
Dept of Energy in the US Government was in the Red Zone with a CASC score of 3.97. A continuation of the poor API performance that started around the 25th of March 2023. This appears to be an issue with an upstream server as the failures seen this week were HTTP 504 Gateway Timeout, a response normally given by a load balancer or reverse proxy when the server it is trying to connect to has not responded in time.
