PubNub is a global data stream network (DSN) company that provides real-time data and messaging services. It was founded in 2010 by Stephen Blum and Todd Greene, and is based in San Francisco, California.

Technical Specs and Infrastructure:

PubNub’s infrastructure is built on a globally distributed network of 15 data centers.

The platform can support up to 10 million simultaneous connections, and delivers over 1.5 trillion messages per month.

PubNub supports over 70 SDKs for a wide range of programming languages and platforms, including JavaScript, Java, Python, Ruby, iOS, Android, and more.

PubNub offers several APIs to facilitate real-time communication, including the Publish/Subscribe API, the Presence API, the Storage & Playback API, and the Functions API.

Security Protocols and Breaches:

PubNub uses AES-256 encryption for all data in transit and at rest.

The platform is SOC 2 Type II certified, which means it meets stringent security standards for data security and privacy.

PubNub has not had any major security breaches to date.

APIs and Performance:

The Publish/Subscribe API allows developers to publish messages to channels, and subscribe to channels to receive messages in real-time.

The Presence API allows developers to detect when users join or leave channels, and see who is currently online.

The Storage & Playback API enables developers to store and retrieve messages for up to 90 days, and replay message streams.

The Functions API allows developers to run serverless functions in response to real-time events.

PubNub’s performance is measured in terms of its latency and message delivery rate. The platform claims an average end-to-end latency of less than 250ms and can deliver over 1.5 million messages per second.

Downtime:

PubNub has had a few minor outages over the years, but these have been resolved quickly, and the company has a 99.999% uptime SLA.

Evolution and Future Plans:

Since its founding, PubNub has grown rapidly, expanding its customer base to include over 2,000 enterprises across a wide range of industries.

PubNub plans to continue to expand its product offerings, with a focus on real-time data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The company’s corporate structure includes a leadership team and a board of directors. Stephen Blum serves as CEO, and the company has raised over $70 million in funding from a variety of investors.
